Generator hiring – helping the National Grid with generator rental.  In a remarkable move, the National Grid has — for the first time ever — had to call on companies to reduce their energy usage, warning of the increased risk of there being a national energy blackout this coming winter. With many sources predicting a longer, colder winter than ever before, many people around Britain are rightly very worried.

The Grid asked firms to reduce their power demand ‘immediately’, something which has never been done before and is only ever considered to be used as a very last resort. There have been multiple breakdowns at UK power stations recently, and the Grid has issued an urgent request for more power to be made available to the Grid by power companies.

The Grid asked power firms to supply an extra 500MW between 4.30pm and 6.00pm — a peak time — which saw the price per megawatt hour during that period rise from £60 to more than £2,500 — a sign of just how scarce and valuable that extra energy is.

The National Grid was keen to point out that it was not saying there was an imminent threat of power cuts and has since played down its significance, but that will not assuage business and personal customers who are relying on their energy supply to get them through what promises to be a long, hard winter. Something as seemingly innocuous as a cold snap could put enormous pressure on the Grid and result in nationwide blackouts — something that could ruin businesses and put families at huge risk.

The National Grid’s chief executive, Steve Holliday, stepped down recently, although he was quick to add that it was not connected with the energy shortfall the country faces.

If you’re worried about the possibility of a nationwide energy blackout, you might want to consider investing in a generator purchase, generator hiring or generator rental. In instances where there’s a power cut or blackout, your generator can create power and electricity without being connected to the mains grid — ensuring you’re always kept powered and warm, which might just turn out to be a blessing if this coming winter is as harsh as predicted.
